Final Oral Presentations

NO CLASS ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 29. BRING YOUR BIBLIOGRAPHY TO THE CONFERENCE (or upload it to Dropbox).

FINAL RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT

I. Final Research Paper (20% of your final grade)
Write a 7-10 page paper (not including title page, appendix, or references) about a research topic of your choice. You must find SIX sources, at least 3 of which must be academic/scholarly (journal, book, etc.). Your paper will follow APA style citation and formatting.

If you choose to do primary research (survey, interview, etc.) the format will be similar to your guided research paper (intro/lit review, methods, results, discussion).

If you do not do primary research, your paper will be a combination of a literature review and argumentative essay. You will be required to choose an argumentative THESIS and defend it using the sources you have compiled.

II. Oral Presentations

As well as writing your final research paper, you are required to give a 5-7 minute oral presentation on your topic to the class using PowerPoint (you may use additional visual aids if you wish). What you cover is your choice – it is up to you to design an effective presentation.

Specific areas you may wish to include in your presentation are:
·         Description of your research topic
·         Why is this topic important
·         Your thesis statement
·         Method and Results (if any)

The final oral presentations are worth 10% of your final grade. Your instructor will grade you on your organization, slide content, and presentation delivery. The time limit will be strictly enforced and you WILL be cut off. Your classmates will also be given peer review sheets, and these sheets will factor into your grade. You will upload your PowerPoints to Dropbox the day of your presentation.

Presentations will take place after fall break (12/1, 12/3, and 12/6). Presentation order will be determined by a signup sheet.
