Day 30: References and Citations

Today we are talking about references and citations and how they make our work credible and help us properly incorporate the words and ideas of others. Every field uses what are called style manuals that guide writers in how to format their paper, including their citations. In this class, we will be using APA Style.
There are hundreds of rules that govern citation, but luckily you don’t have to memorize them all. All you need to know are the basics is where to look for the rules for the special cases. There are plenty of online resources such as Purdue OWL that have databases. Your textbook by Diana Hacker is also a great resource for citation guidelines.
We will also learn and practice how to make reference list entries to catalog your sources at the end of your paper. This is required in academic writing.
